A man in his 20s who was arrested as part of the investigation into an assault in Westport, Co. Mayo yesterday has been released from custody.
A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public of Prosecutions (DPP).
A man in his 60s was in critical condition after the serious assault which occurred in the very early hours of Saturday morning.
The altercation on High Street, Westport occurred at approximately 1.20am on Saturday.
The man (60s) was taken to Mayo University Hospital, where his condition was described by Gardaí as critical.
The scene is currently preserved for a forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.
