A file will go to the DPP in relation to the firework incident in Eyre Square in which a young woman was seriously injured.

A 19 year old woman was seriously injured after being struck in the face by a firework in Eyre Square the early hours of the morning on Friday, October 22.

Gardaí arrested a man in his 20s in connection with this incident on Wednesday, and he has since been released without charge.

The man in his 20s arrested yesterday, Wednesday 17th November 2021, in relation to an incident in Eyre Square, Galway on the 22nd October 2021 has been released without charge,” Gardaí said.

“A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.”

A fundraiser was set up on gofundme in the aftermath of this incident to cover the costs of medical treatments for her injuries, which has raised over €35,000.

A message from the young woman’s father in late October said “We would like to thank you all sincerely for your kindness and support for our daughter.”

“She is beginning her road to recovery and healing a little day by day. Her bravery, courage and dignity is an example to us all. We are truly overwhelmed by your support, thank you again.”
