Three Galway based artists have been chosen for the Remote Control programme to help them develop innovative art projects and find new ways to connect with audiences.

Remote Control is Artist Development Programme for artists based in Galway who are working creating their own work in the area of Theatre, Dance, or Visual Art.

The three month programme running from June to August is a collaboration between Brú Theatre, Galway Dance Project, and the Town Hall Theatre.

Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, it aims to help these artists find new ways to engage with their audiences.

Each artist will receive a €1,500 grant, along with the benefit of in house workshops, and remote mentor-ships to help develop their chosen projects.

The aim of the programme is not to produce finished pieces but to develop practice, explore ideas and build networks.

Kristyn Fontanella is a dancer and choreographer who wants to use Remote Control to investigate new ways of integrating dance and theatre, specifically comedic performances into her creative practice.

This programme will allow her the opportunity to garner information and skills from theatre practitioners in other fields, and she, in turn, can adapt that into movement which will be more relatable to the general public.

SJ Woods is a theatre-maker and creative producer who will be working on a project focused on women’s experiences of the Bon Secours mother and baby home in Tuam.

During the Remote Control Residency she will research the experiences of the women inside the home and develop ways to present their stories in an immersive theatre experience.

Fionnuala Doyle-Wade is a contemporary dance artist from Seattle, currently based in Galway, who is exploring how we relate to physical space and how physical space informs the way we move, as dancers and humans.

For Remote Control she is creating three choreographic scores which will be presented and shared on various platforms with an invitation for anyone to create and film their own variation.

Each artist will be paired with a professional mentor, who will provide online support and mentorship as the artists develop their projects.
