Met Éireann has issued another status orange warning for low temperatures in Galway tonight as it remains baltic across the country.

It will be bitterly cold overnight, with temperatures below -5 degrees leading to severe frost and ice in many places.

The orange warning begins at 6pm Wednesday and will be in place for 18 hours until midday Thursday.

Also affected by the warning are Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Tipperary, and Westmeath.

The freezing temperatures look set increase by the weekend, when cloudy and wet conditions return.
