Galway were emphatic winners over Roscommon on Friday (4th May) evening as they kicked off their defence of the Connacht Minor Football Championship with a 4-18 to 0-8 victory in Tuam Stadium.

Even with a new under 17 format and a two year difference from the Class of 2017, the Tribesmen looked as hungry as their predecessors as they took advantage of two first half goals to run out 22-point winners.

Matthew Cooley and Aidan Halloran got two green flags each as Roscommonn’s challenge faded and gave Galway the perfect start in the round-robin format.

Manager Donal O Fatharta felt the resulted reflected Galway’s effort but not Roscommon’s who he feels are a much better team than the score line suggested.  He chatted to Galway Daily after the final whistle.
