Woman in her 70s killed on Galway road after being hit by 4×4

A woman in her 70s was killed on Galway’s roads last night in a road traffic accident when she was knocked down by a 4×4 on near Ardrahan.

The incident happened shortly after 9pm last night on the M18 southbound, near Junction 17 at Cloughboley, Ardrahan.

A female pedestrian was struck by a 4×4 truck and killed.

Emergency services and gardaí attended the scene where the woman was pronounced dead.

Her body was removed to University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the 4×4 was reportedly uninjured.

The road was closed last night for a forensic examination, but has since re-opened to traffic.

Gardaí are investing and are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
