Fire fighters in Galway have gotten a major boost this week as a state of the art €2.4 million fire station has officially opened in Tuam.
The new station on Milltown road officially became operational this week, as fire fighters moved from the old station on High Street that has served the area for over six decades.
As well as protecting the local area from fires, the new station includes a training base for fire fighters which will benefit the entire Galway region.
Work began on new fire station last November with funding from the National Directorate Fire Emergency Management under the Department of Local Government.
It was part of a €40 million investment to upgrade fire stations around the country.
Minister for Local Government Eoghan Murphy is expected to “officially” open the new fire station some time later this year.
The fire station was built by Galway company Carey Building Contractors, eight years after the site was purchased by Galway County Council.
