Planning permission is being sought to build a 24m high mobile mast on the outskirts of Claregalway.

Emerald Tower Limited has submitted plans to the council for the monopole mast with nine antennae and three dishes to the county council.

The proposed site of the mobile mast is in an agricultural field at Cahergowan, Claregalway, to the northwest of the village.

The planning application states that the new mast is necessary to replace equipment which will soon be removed.

Eir and Three have operated a mast on top of the Claregalway Hotel for some time, but have recently been served with notice to quit the site.

The two are currently operating from a temporary 12m structure, but this 24m mast is meant to be a permanent replacement, with room for a third operator as well.

The new mast will serve to continue existing 3G and 4G services, as well as provide the infrastructure needed for 5G, the application states.

A decision on this planning application is due from Galway County Council by September 21 of this year.
