Planning permission has been granted to convert a pub in Mountbellew town centre into a new café and restaurant.

The County Council gave its approval to a planning application by Colin Higgins to change the use of Kelly’s Bar in The Square, Mountbellew.

The plans were first submitted to the council in May of this year, and in July the council requested more information on the “operational details” of the proposed business.

In response the applicants said that it is “probable that the premises might be more a café than restaurant with a commercial kitchen but to cover either eventuality we have shown location for proposed extraction system on plans and elevations at a point where it will not be visible from any public area.”

Galway County Council granted planning permission with a total of eight conditions attached.
