Walkers, joggers and runners will take to Cappagh Park in Knocknacarra this Saturday at 9.30am to celebrate the parkrun’s eighth birthday.
Knocknacarra Parkrun was the first to take place in Galway in May 2014, and there are now five other parkruns in the county – in Oranmore, Oughterard, Clonbur Woods, Coole Park and Portumna.
Taking place over 327 Saturday mornings at 9.30am over the past eight years, thousands of people have either walked or ran more than 153 million meters in total, which is more than four times the circumference of the earth.
Nobody comes last at parkrun because there is always a tail walker making sure everyone gets around safely, and they are the last to finish.
There are also two junior parkruns for 4 to 14-year-olds that take place on Sunday mornings at 9.30am in Renville Park, Oranmore and Westside Playing Fields.
All are welcome to join for free by visiting www.parkrun.ie/register and participants should bring along their barcode to the parkrun of their choice.
