Plans have been submitted to the county council for a residential estate in Oughterard consisting of 22 houses.
Hyman Properties is seeking planning permission for the construction of 11 two-bed houses, 8 three-bed houses, and 3 four-bed houses at Kilcummin, Oughterard.
The 0.69Ha site of the proposed development is currently an undeveloped brownfield location, with existing residential develops to the north and west, and agricultural land to the south and east.
There have been five objections submitted to the county council from local residents, raising multiple concerns with the plans.
Locals are concerned that it will result in a significant increase in traffic through the Kilcummin Field estate, which could pose a road safety hazard for children.
Objections have also been raised to the portion of the planning application which states that two “unused” tanks will be removed as part of this development.
Multiple submissions have stated that those tanks are in fact in use as part of the private wastewater treatment system for Kilcummin Field, as the estate is not connected to the town’s wastewater system.
Galway County Council is due to make a decision on this planning application by November 5.
