Plans are in the works for a housing development in Moycullen that includes a substantial mix of assisted living units for older people.

The Castlegar Development Group is preparing a planning application to build a housing estate at Ballyquirke, Moycullen consisting of 48 houses.

It would include 14 one-bedroom houses designed as Assisted Living units for able bodied elderly people so that they can continue to live independently.

The remainder of the development will consist of 11 three-bed homes, 23 two-bed houses, a creche, community café/dayroom facility linked to the assisted living accommodation, playground, and public park.

The 14 assisted living homes have been designed for “elderly people who wish to live independently in a central village location and in a secure neighbourhood location where the residents live in a friendly and safe environment,” the plans for this development state.

They would allow older people to “remain active in their social, spiritual and recreational activities, connected to their family, friends and the wider community.”
