A prefab building at Galway Steiner National School used for a junior and senior infants classroom has been destroyed in a fire.
Investigations are looking into the cause of the fire at the prefab unit, one of several used at the Knocknacarra school.
Nobody was injured in the incident, with RTÉ reporting that the pupils and their teacher had left earlier that morning to go on a nature walk before the fire began.
One possible cause of the blaze suspected at this moment is a faulty storage heater.
The Galway Steiner School is a coeducational school run using the Steiner method which promotes creative and active learning with a strong emphasis on movement, music, art, handwork, drama, and outdoor learning.
It first opened on the Cappagh road in Knocknacarra in 2015 under the patronage of Lifeways Ireland, catering to students up to 3rd class.
Principal Shane O’Connell said that contents of the prefab classroom were destroyed in today’s fire, and that an investigation would seek to pinpoint the exact cause of the incident
