The Galway RNLI lifeboat came to the rescue of a boat with three people aboard which found itself drifting on Thursday evening.

The recreational vessel had left Galway Docks earlier that day, but started drifting after experiencing mechanical problems.

Shortly before 7pm, the crew made contact with the Coast Guard, who sought the assistance of the Galway RNLI station.

Lifeboat volunteer crew Brian Niland (Helm), Martin Oliver, Lisa McDonagh and James Rattigan located the vessel with three crew on board, and safely towed it back to Galway Docks.

RNLI Deputy Launching Authority Seán Óg Leydon said “Thankfully they had the means to contact the Coast Guard directly to get the help they needed before the situation escalated.”
