Crews in Galway City and County are dealing with multiple fallen trees and other debris caused by heavy winds from Storm Ellen which battered Galway overnight.
Galway was under a Status Orange wind warning for Storm Ellen until 6am this morning, with warnings of “severe and damaging winds” overnight.
Mace Head weather stations recorded winds of 80km/hr at approximately 3am this morning, with gusts reaching up to 106km/hr.
Motorists are being advised to be careful of fallen debris on the roads this morning, including trees blocking the road, or downed power lines, which can be extremely dangerous.
Galway County Council has reported multiple fallen trees at locations across the county brought down by Storm Ellen.
Fallen trees and debris have been reported at Joyce’s Service Station on the Dublin Road, Athenry; at Clarinbridge near Kilcornan; and on the approach to Galway City from the Maldron Hotel, near the Galway Clinic roundabout.
There are also downed trees blocking the road at a local road off the N63 towards Murray’s sawmill, Ballygar, and at Ballyleigh N.S. on the N63.
Galway City Council has said that road crews are dealing with fallen debris and flooding at multiple locations this morning.
A fallen tree has been reported at Rockbarton road in Salthill, and surface flooding has occurred on the Monivea and Fairgreen roads.
