Galway City Council is holding a public consultation with school communities on making journeys safer for kids walking and cycling to school.
As part of the Safe Routes to School programme, the city council is working on developing a ‘front of school’ design that will trips safer.
The design will also benefit residents and commuters walking and cycling through their neighbourhood.
For this, the Council is engaging with the school communities of Radharc na Mara NS, Scoil Bhríde NS, Scoil Iognáid NS, GET NS and St Joseph’s Special School.
Feedback, support and comments are now welcome on the concept design now at public consultation, online or in writing by June 10, 2022.

Last summer, eleven schools in Galway City and County were awarded funding in first round of the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Programme.
This was for improvement ranging from better footpaths and new cycle lanes, to a complete reworking of the road outside a school’s entrance as proposed here.
