Gardaí have updated their appeal for information on a suspected hit and run incident in Furbo that left one woman dead, with a revised time period for which they are seeking information.

Shortly after 7:30pm on Wednesday evening Gardaí were called to the Barna to Spiddal road, where a female pedestrian had been found with serious injuries.

It is believed that the woman in her 50s was struck by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene in a hit and run incident.

She was taken from the scene to University Hospital Galway, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí are continuing their appeal for any road users who may have information or camera footage, including dash-cam, to get in touch.

The revised times of the appeal are for anyone who was travelling in the Furbo area between 6:15pm and 7:15pm on Wednesday, December 16.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
