The number of people who have died after being diagnosed with COVID-19 in Galway since the start of the pandemic has risen to 110, new CSO figures show.
Two deaths among confirmed cases were recorded in the county between March 5 and March 19, as well as 336 new cases of the virus.
The median age of the 110 deaths in Galway is 81, while the median age of the 9,747 cases that have been confirmed here is 31 – the lowest median age of any county in the Republic.
Nationally, the number of cases among those over the age of 65 has been decreasing for a number of weeks as the vaccine roll-out continues.
The percentage of cases in this age group fell from 18% in the week ending 29 January to just 9% in the week ending 19 March.
From the start of the pandemic until last week, the over 65 age category accounted for 56% of all people who were in hospital with the illness.
There were 88 health care workers diagnosed with the virus in the week ending 19 March, which is the lowest weekly figure since the week ending 21 August 2020.
A total of 38 deaths were recorded among confirmed COVID-19 cases in the week ending 19 March.
There were 14 deaths in Dublin during the week, with no other counties recording more than five deaths.
Counties Mayo and Clare had fewer than 25 confirmed cases during the week ending 19 March.
