No COVID patients in intensive care unit at UHG

There were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the intensive care unit at University Hospital Galway on Saturday night, while Portiuncula Hospital has just one patient with the disease receiving critical care.

It was the fourth night in a row that UHG has had no confirmed cases in ICU, as the number of people diagnosed with the disease overall in the hospital rose by one to 19.

When the data was taken at 8pm yesterday evening, Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe had just three confirmed cases.

Nationally, 422 people were hospitalised with the virus on Saturday night – down from 492 last Saturday.

Of the cases hospitalised yesterday evening, 106 were in intensive care units out of a total of 306 in ICUs across the country.

Health officials reported 7,333 further COVID cases yesterday after new restrictions were announced on Friday, which are set to come into effect tomorrow.
