COVID-19: Case numbers at UHG continue to increase

The number of people hospitalised with COVID-19 at University Hospital Galway has continued to climb, with 11 confirmed cases as of Sunday night.

Of the COVID patients at UHG, six are in the Intensive Care Unit, the third highest figure among the country’s acute hospitals.

There are also a further six suspected cases at UHG, for which test results were awaited.

At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe there were five confirmed cases as of 8pm last night.

One of those patients was in the ICU, and the hospital also reported one suspected case.

Nationwide there were 173 confirmed cases in Irish hospitals as of Sunday night, of whom 46 were in Intensive Care.
