There have been a further 2,427 cases of COVID-19 reported by the Department of Health today, as numbers remain as high as in late January.

There were 449 people in Ireland hospitalised with COVID as of 8am this morning.

Of these patients, 93 have been admitted to intensive care units for treatment.

Urging people to get vaccinated, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ronan Glynn said on twitter that vaccines have had “fantastic impact” in Ireland over the past two centuries.

Vaccines have together “saved more lives than any other public health intervention,” Dr Glynn said.

Chief of the HSE Paul Reid said that doctors in ICUs are treating a “disproportionately high number” of younger unvaccinated people.
