Seven more people have died after being diagnosed with COVID-19 in the Republic, taking the total number of COVID-related deaths to 1,670.
The NPHET said that an additional 28 cases were also confirmed, meaning 25,163 people have now tested positive in the state.
No new cases were reported in today’s figures for Galway – the total number of confirmed cases in the county remains 481, as of midnight on Wednesday.
It is the third day in a row that the figures have shown no increase in the number of positive test results in Galway.
Speaking this evening, Dr. Tony Holohan said: “As we move to Phase Two, the government has introduced a range of new measures in line with the advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team.
“It is our individual behaviours and personal choices that will ultimately influence what course this disease takes over the coming weeks and months.”
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn added: “The reopening of playgrounds in public locations and outdoor amenities including zoos, animal parks and summer camps, as well as the summer education programme for children with special educational needs, are some of the measures that is hoped will ease the severity of this pandemic on children and their families.”
