There are 1,031 new cases of Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland, the Department of Health has confirmed this evening.
Sixty of the reported cases are in Galway – which is the third worst affected county in today’s figures after Dublin (235) and Cork (232).
No further deaths related to the virus were reported today by health officials.
This latest increase of more than 1,000 cases in 24 hours comes as the government prepares to bring in tighter restrictions to try to stop the spread of the disease.
Of the new confirmed cases, 70% are under 45 years of age and the median age is 30 years old.
“If you have symptoms of COVID-19, if you are waiting for a test result or if you are a confirmed case, you must self-isolate for 10 days from when you first develop symptoms. Self-isolation means staying in your room, away from other members of your household,” said Dr Tony Holohan.
“If you live in a house with a confirmed case do not go to work or school. You must stay at home and restrict your movements for 14 days.”
The latest data available shows that there are ten people in UHG with Covid-19 and two in Portiuncula Hospital. None of the twelve confirmed cases are in ICU.
