This year will see more than just a St Patrick’s Day celebration tomorrow, but a whole festival planned for the four day weekend.
Friday has also been designated as a public holiday this year, as people are eager to celebrate the holiday for the first time in three years.
There is a range of music, sports, crafts, and other fantastic events planned to run in Galway City over the remainder of this week.
Things are actually kicking off a bit early with the Greening of city centre streets and Bádóirí an Chladaigh in the Claddagh Basin from Wednesday.
Local artist Brendan Savage from the Galway Light Festival has been commissioned by the city council to design a new Greening experience ‘Reflections on a Nation’ that will bring the streets to life.
The centrepiece of the festival will of course be the iconic St Patrick’s Day parade, wending its way through the city centre on Thursday morning.
This year’s parade, making its triumphant return after two years’ cancellation, will be led by Galway’s Olympic Medalists Aifric Keogh and Fiona Murtagh.
But there are many more events that will take place over the next four days in the 2022 St Patrick’s Festival.
Eyre Square Music Fest

A four day festival of free music will take place in Eyre Square, showcasing the talents of a wide array of local musicians.

Family Fun Sports Day
Salthill Park – March 19
Galway Sports Partnership is putting on a Saturday of fun sporting activities for all the family.
Why not come and take part or try a new sport outdoors with activities such as Beach Volleyball, Tag Rugby and much more to enjoy over the weekend.
Galway Lawn Tennis Club will also host an open day on March 18.

Galway Arts Centre
Mountain Language is a group exhibition featuring exciting Irish and international contemporary artists: Duncan Campbell, Ailbhe Ní Bhriain, Sarah Pierce, Alice Rekab, Denise Ferreira da Silva & Arjuna Neuman.
The exhibition looks at language and identity through a range of mediums including sculpture, film, photography, installation and performance.
A performance piece by Sarah Pierce will take place on Saturday, March 19 at 4:30pm. The free event will happen at the Arts Centre
