Two men charged with large cannabis and xanax haul

Two Galway men have been indicted and sent forward to trial for allegedly dealing in cannabis and xanax.

Oisín Wade (27), of Boleybeg, Barna and Patrick Clarke (29), with an address at Bin on the Western Distributor road, have both been sent forward for trial for possessing cannabis and alprazolam for sale or supply.

The two co-accused have been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of sale or supply under Section 15A of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

It is alleged that on October 11 of last year the two men were found in possession of cannabis and alprazolam, often sold as xanax, with a value of €13,000 or more on the Western Distributor Road.

The maximum sentence for an indictment under Section 15A is life imprisonment, and the law carries a presumed sentence of ten years, though this can be reduced of the judge is satisfied there are sufficient circumstances.

They also face charges under Sections 3 and 27 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Gardaí served Books of Evidence on the two at a recent sitting of Galway District Court, and they were sent forward to trial at the next sitting of Galway Circuit Court in October.
